Biography

Brendan Walsh, is an Australian artist based off the Central Coast, near Sydney.

His artworks include Mixed Media paintings of Urban Pop Art and Abstract Graffiti using mostly recycled materials and overlaying them with acrylic paint and aerosol as well as stencils, paint pens and oil sticks.

Creating art on Paper, Timber, Canvas and found objects.  Many of these artworks are assemblage pieces that have Street Art and Pop Art influences whilst also incorporating religious iconography.  They also draw on Mexican Art, Outsider Art and Advertising for inspiration.

Brendan also builds and develops a textured surface on his Paper and Canvas pieces. He achieves this by weathering the paper and canvas surfaces through layering, drips of paint, rips and scratches which all become part of the finished Artwork.

“I particularly like old Street Art that is faded and peeling, my focus is on the edges of these works, where one artists piece overlaps another, creating an abstract finish often with faded and peeling gig posters showing through - I see the beauty in this decay”.

“The mix of mass marketing, sacred geometry, consumerism and religious imagery is of most interest to me as is the tension that is produced when these competing ideals collide".
